Ingredients
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs | 2 lbs |
| Cream cheese, softened and cubed | 1 (8 oz) package |
| Cream of chicken soup | 1 (10½ oz) can |
| Chicken broth or water | ½ cup |
| Dry Italian dressing mix | 1 packet |
Instructions
Step 1: Add the chicken
Place the chicken into a 4–6 quart slow cooker in an even layer.
Step 2: Prepare the sauce
In a bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, and dry Italian dressing mix until smooth.
Step 3: Combine everything
Scatter the cubed cream cheese over the chicken. Pour the soup mixture evenly across the top.
Make sure the chicken is mostly covered with sauce for even cooking.
Step 4: Slow cook
Cover and cook until the chicken becomes tender:
- LOW: 4–6 hours
- HIGH: 2–3 hours
The chicken should shred easily when done.
Step 5: Shred and stir
Using two forks, shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker.
Stir thoroughly so the melted cream cheese blends into the sauce, creating a smooth and creamy texture.
Step 6: Let the sauce thicken
Allow the mixture to rest on the warm setting for about 5–10 minutes before serving.
This helps the sauce become slightly thicker and richer.
