Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Cabbage Rolls in Tomato Sauce)

Ingredients

  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or ground pork
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the whole cabbage and cook for 5–7 minutes until the leaves soften.
  2. Carefully remove and separate the leaves.
  3. In a bowl, combine ground meat, rice, onion, egg, garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Place about 2 tablespoons of filling on each cabbage leaf and roll tightly, folding in the sides.
  5. Arrange the rolls in a baking dish or pot.
  6. Pour tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls.
  7. Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour, or simmer on the stovetop for 45–50 minutes.
  8. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
